“God has not given us a sprit of fear…”

I was meditating on this verse recently.

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but [a spirit] of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy, NKJV).

There are many kinds of fears and phobias that we face but, when you think about it, there are three basic fears that we all face:

(1) The fear of being revealed as powerless — unless a person risks testing his power, he will never be sure of his strength, and he will spend his life testing his defenses.

(2) The fear of being rejected as unlovable — unless a person risks being rejected, he will never find a love he can trust.

(3) The fear of being ridiculed as worthless — unless a person risks losing his esteem, he will never discover true appreciation or contentment.

God’s response to our three basic fears, and His provision for facing those fears, is the indwelling Spirit of God, who is for us the Spirit of power…of love…and of a sound mind.

Think about that.

Hmmm…spirit of …hmmm…well two out of three ain’t bad. Psychology tell us that our concept of self is formed by having healthy and balanced feelings of belonging, worth, and competency, which mirrors what Pastor Ed shares. It’s a tremendous gift to know that as I appropriate who I am in Christ, all those needs are met.
