Parable of the Zi
February 10th, 2006 | by Ed |One of the most basic laws of physics, the law of entropy, reminds us that the universe is constantly running down. It would have run down by now were it not for the fact that God is a God of constant renewal.
Your body has 10 to the 28th atoms, i.e. 1 with 28 zeroes after it. Yet 90% of those atoms are renewed every year–100% every five years. That means that you’re a new person every five years! In fact, over 2 million red blood cells in your body are replaced every second. Feeling tired yet?
On a subatomic level, it’s even more amazing. Scientists have identified over 200 subatomic particles, including quarks, leptons, Yang-Mills particles, gluons, and many more (we’ve come a long way from the toothpick and styrofoam model of the atom).
One subatomic particle, called a zi, has a lifetime of one-ten-billionth of a second. In other words, every second ten billion generations of zi’s have come and gone! God is a God of renewal!
Apparently, the universe is running down so fast that God has to constantly renew it. And our spirits, our minds, and our hearts face the same kind of draining of strength and depletion if not constantly renewed by God.
This week, spend time in prayer and worship renewing your spirit. Spend time in God’s word renewing your mind. Spend time cultivating meaningful relationships that renew your heart. And laugh more…it’ll renew your youth!
