Blizzard of ‘06

February 12th, 2006 | by Ed |

It’s 9:15 a.m. on Sunday morning. Normally, I’d be getting up to preach in our early service about this time. But not today. There’s a blizzard out there.

We have 8-10 inches of snow already, with 18-20 inches of total snowfall expected before the storm is over. Winds are 40-50 mph. So, as much as I hate to cancel church services, we cancelled services today.

In the 14 winters that I have been pastor at MCC, we’ve had to cancel church services three times–once in 1994, once in 2005, and today.

Oddly, almost every snowfall this winter has taken place on Saturday night or Sunday morning. By the way, if you’re uncertain about whether Sunday services will be cancelled due to inclement weather, be sure to check our website.

The Blizzard of 2006 will bring some record snowfalls I’m sure, however, it won’t come near the Blizzard of 1996. On January 9, 1996, there was the all-time record snowfall for NJ–35 inches of snow fell in Whitehouse Station, Hunterdon County (the previous record was 34 inches of snow which fell in Cape May in February, 1899).

Anyway, try to stay warm and safe during the blizzard. We’ll see you next Sunday…Lord willing.
