Coming to the End of Your Map
February 16th, 2006 | by Ed |Here’s our verse for the week…
“By faith Abraham… obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
Ever felt like that? Ever felt like you’ve come to the end of your map, and you didn’t know where you were going? If so, welcome to the journey of faith.
The essence of faith is following God even when you have no idea where He’s leading you. Faith is a step-by-step, daily dependence upon God’s leading.
And that’s scary. We want to see the map before we obey. We want to know where we’re going, what to expect, and how long it will take to get there. We want a 1,000-watt halogen lamp that will illumine the next five miles of the journey, but God gives us a “lamp to our feet,” i.e. only enough light for the next step.
God didn’t give Abraham any reasons, but He gave him a promise. In the beginning, God’s promise was very general and vague. But as Abraham obeyed and followed God in faith, there was a progressive unfolding and amplification of the purpose and promise of God.
That’s how it is on the journey of faith. God doesn’t give reasons, He gives us promises. God doesn’t give us a map, He leads us Himself into the fulfillment of His purposes and promises.
Leave the maps home…and follow God in faith.

Actually, had God given Abraham a map…he wouldn’t have read it! Since men have a reputation for NOT following maps or asking for directions,it must be because as the spiritual leaders in the family, we intuitively know we must go only one step at a time, right! So to not ask for directions is a Godly trait that women do not share with us men.
