Psing Me a Psong Mr. Psalmist
May 26th, 2006 | by Ed |The Psalms have always been a source of comfort, strength and inspiration for me, as it has for many others. I love to meditate on the psalms in my personal devotions because of their vivid imagery.
The power of the psalms is their ability to communicate truth about God, and faith in God, through a rich assortment of images and metaphors. The key to understanding the psalms is to understand the rich meaning and significance of the biblical images and metaphors.
This coming Sunday, I’ll be teaching from Psalm 95. In a message entitled “Living in God’s Protection,” we’ll look at how we can have a joyful, thankful heart in all circumstances. Not because of a Pollyanna, make-(yourself)-believe faith, but because we: (1) take refuge in the shelter of God the Rock (v. 1-2); (2) trust in the sovereignty of God the King (v. 3-5); and (3) live in the security of God the Shepherd (v. 6-7).
There we find three vivid and meaningful images that reveal truth to us about the character of God: He is a sheltering Rock, a sovereign King, and a caring Shepherd.
It all adds up to living in the assurance and security of God’s protection.

Thank you for your timely message this past Sunday.
As God would have it, our pastor here did a message in Proverbs on the sovereignty of God. I had some questions after that about prayer and you did a great job answering them for me.
I guess God’s sovereignty is something I always have a hard time wrapping my mind around. When I’m under attack I sometimes forget this, and try to take control by my own power. Like I even have control to begin with. Praise God for being a bigger God than I sometimes see Him as.
Thanks again Ed.
