Lessons From the Loaves
July 26th, 2007 | by Ed |Here’s a Bible trivia question for you:
Which of Jesus’ miracles is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels?
Last Sunday, I finished up the series Church: Gettting It Right. We looked at the importance of being joined together, held together, and fitted together in healthy, meaningful relationships.
This Sunday, I’ll be teaching on the greatest of Jesus’ miracles (and the only one recorded in all four gospels)–the feeding of the 5,000. My message is entitled Lessons From the Loaves.
Many of Jesus’ miracles were visual parables which communicate a number of valuable lessons about the nature of faith, ministry, and life in the kingdom of God. The miracle of the feediing of the 5,000 is especially rich in valuable insights.
Hope to see you this Sunday.
God is good…all the time!

You know it’s interesting, the synopsis (1st 3 gospels) all show Jesus telling the Apostles to feed the people themselves. When they brought the food to Him, Jesus gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them to distribute to the people. Many Pastors have preached on this as being the first (maybe only) miracle done in the Gospels not by Jesus, but by the Apostles, for the scriptures tell us that they distributed the bread and fish (mostly just the bread…like Jesus gave out the fish or something), and all the people were full. Then when the Apostles checked the baskets, there was a bunch still left over.
But now JOHN on the other hand, talks of Jesus being the one who distributed both the fish AND the bread to the people, showing that Jesus was the one who performed the miracle.
A great topic to preach on, and I’m curious about how you presented it in your series.
