Grace Changes Everything!

June 6th, 2008 | by Ed |

This Sunday, I’m continuing my series entitled What a Good God, God Is. The title of my message is “Goodness Gracious.” An important aspect of the goodness of God is the grace of God.

We’re known as a church where the grace of God is taught and lived out. So I’m often asked questions like: What exactly do you mean by the word grace? What’s the big deal about grace anyway?

Grace is not so much a topic to teach on, as much as it is an atmosphere that permeates everything you teach on. Grace is a lens through which we view God and life in the kingdom.

It’s a lens, however, that turns everything we thought we knew about God upside down. Grace comes along and changes all the rules about how we relate to God. Grace also changes all the price tags; what we thought was valuable is revealed as worthless, and what we despised as worthless is really priceless!

Perhaps the most disconcerting thing about grace is that grace reveals a God who acts so…well, unGodlike. He refuses to stay within His job description and behave the way a God is supposed to behave.

This Sunday, I’ll endeavor to show why grace changes everything we thought we knew about God (*and so never bothered to ask). I guess you could call it “Grace Anatomy” (I can hear the groans already…that title’s not original to me).

But, in any case, I need to issue a warning:

WARNING: The Surgeon General has determined that this message may be hazardous to your preconceived ideas about God! This message may have dangerous side effects including outbursts of joy, sudden attacks of giddiness, an overwhelming sense of gratitude and a newfound joy in serving Christ.
