“Be Strong and Courageous”

July 10th, 2008 | by Ed |

This Sunday, I’m continuing the series Great Verses To Live By. The title of my message is “Be Strong and Courageous,” and the verse we’re going to look at is Joshua 1:9, which reads:

“Be strong and courageous. do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

If someone comes to you and says, “There’s something I need you to do, but you’ll need to be strong and courageous.” That should be an immediate tip-off that this is not something you want to get involved in. It sounds dangerous and risky. Add the words, “Do not be terrified or discouraged,” and you should be  looking for the nearest Exit!

If you’re one of those fearless, naturally courageous hero-types, then you probably won’t need this message. But if you’re like the rest of us timid souls who are wrestling with a host of fears, this message will be a great encouragement to you.

Like Joshua, we face challenges that require us to be strong and courageous in order to follow God in faith and obedience. And, like Joshua, God has given us some valuable promises to strengthen our heart and encourage our faith.

Come this Sunday and be “en-couraged.”
